Roughly 5-10cms of snow is expected by Environment Canada for Thunder Bay before it starts to die off tonight.
Meteorologist Gerald Cheng is blaming this weather on a lingering system from Canada’s prairies.
“This disturbance is much stronger, as well we are looking at northeasterly wind that’s coming off the lake, and that’s why it’s enhancing the snow a bit.”
He adds it’ll pick up a bit tomorrow.
“Because it’s going through the Great Lakes, right now, through Lake Superior, the wind is coming out of the east, and that’s why it’s picking up a bit more moisture fromĀ Lake Superior.”
Environment Canada notes about 5cms have fallen at the airport, but another 5-10 is still to come.
As for temperatures, the meteorologist notes this afternoon is below the seasonal norm.
“Once we head into the weekend, at least for Saturday, going back to seasonal, which should be around -8 or -9, but as we head into Sunday and Monday, we’ll be going above seasonal.”
