Ontario’s top public health officer says the flu shot can be life-saving and not just for those getting vaccinated.
Dr. David Williams says getting the free flu shot means you could avoid passing it on to anyone within coughing or sneezing distance.
He’s especially concerned about high-risk groups like children and seniors.
“They’re very young, like under the age of 5, those over the age of 65, those with other health conditions, who’s immune status may not be that strong, and therefore they can get severe consequences which could cause hospitalization and even death.”
Williams says the flu shot is the best defense against the flu and is urging everyone to get it as soon as possible.
