A Thunder Bay defenceman is finishing his junior hockey days at home.
20-year-oldĀ Zach Fortin was dealt to the Kam River Fighting Walleye back on June 3rd after playing in 32 games with the Timmins Rock of the Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League (NOJHL).
“It’s nice to be back after being away since I was 17,” Fortin said. “I think it’s pretty fitting to be back in my last year of hockey and hopefully I can help bring a championship back to Thunder Bay.”
Fortin was a graduate of the Thunder Bay Kings program and points to a few reasons for returning to the Superior League, including his father.
“He’s been battling with kidney failure for the last five years and he’s been on the transplant list for just as long. He just got the transplant last weekend, is recovering at home and I’m so fortunate for all the good news and to be home with the family.”
Fortin played in eight games with the Thunder Bay North Stars in 2017/2018 and also has experience with the Gatineau Olympique of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League (QMJHL).
