Another popular in-person summer event in Thunder Bay is changing due to COVID-19 restrictions.
Organizers of Ribfest say the August event will not happen, in its current format, after careful consultation with the Thunder Bay District Health Unit.
Our Kids Count is the beneficial charity from the event and Executive Director Kathryn Hughes tells us they are going to be looking at their options for holding a take-out drive-thru style event.
“Definitely doing an abridged version, and a drive-thru concept is what we are exploring and is what ribbers on the east coast are looking at,” Hughes said.
Hughes says this is one of their main fundraisers and they are hoping sponsors, local businesses, and the public will continue to support them this summer in a new COVID-19 friendly event.
The new Executive Director of Our Kids Count says the former E.D. Gladys Berringer and long-time Ribfest organizer John Trevisanutto are working on salvaging the event and reformating it.
