The NorWest Community Health Centres‘ overdose prevention site on Simpson Street is now some six weeks old.
CEO Juanita Lawson says it appears people who use drugs in the city are taking advantage of it by checking out the space and making sure they can have a good relationship with the staff.
She tells us the centres’ dilemma is the uncertainty of whether they will be able to stay open for the long term.
Without government approval, the clinic can only operate the safe injection site until the end of the month.
Lawson explains they have already submitted their application to the Ministry of Health and Long Term Care for an extension.
