The loss of Greyhound Bus service in the region is prompting the Chamber of Commerce to call for action.
President Charla Robinson wants the provincial government to draw up a plan which treats the north’s transportation needs like those in the south.
She notes inter-community transportation in the south is subsidized by the province.
Robinston points to Metrolinx, TTC, GO Transit, and Via Rail which all get government help for their southern Ontario services.
The Chamber of Commerce president notes there is also no passenger rail service in Thunder Bay which adds to our transportation woes.
It means many people in the region without a vehicle have difficulty in travelling long distances.
