The Northwestern Health Unit has released the findings from its report titled Cannabis in the Community.
Officials received 578 responses from its online discussion panel and online survey.
Health Promoter Stephanie Charles says it was made clear that most people are supportive of legalization and finds it carries more benefits than problems.
However, Charles says there are concerns regarding cannabis impaired driving, underage smoking, how the drug is advertised and second hand smoke.
She also says the respondents also indicated the Health Unit has a role to play to support local municipalities on strengthening policies on where to locate retail cannabis shops.
Charles suggests there will be a push to ban cannabis advertising at public events where children are present and they also need to be involved in supporting local municipalities on strengthening policies on where to locate retail cannabis shops.
