So I had to go to Toronto last week for business and I couldn’t help but notice the price of gas. Many places in Toronto were selling regular at $1.11 per litre. Almost 25 cents less per litre than what we pay here in Thunder Bay. I get living in the north can be a little more expensive but really?
According to Gasbuddy.com , which tracks prices across the country, in Winnipeg a litre of gas is selling for $1.05. Even in Vancouver, where prices are always higher than the rest of Canada, a litre of gas is selling there for $1.37. How about this … Strathroy, Ontario [thanks Facebook] gas today is 99.9 cents a litre.
Now I get province to province there are differences in taxes so it is hard to compare but those are still big gaps in pricing. Maybe next time the Premier comes to Thunder Bay we can ask him if he has any ideas so businesses that depend on travelling across the north can be more competitive and tourists coming through here won’t feel like they are being gouged. Or people who are thinking of moving here won’t have to calculate the extra money it will cost for gas when deciding if this is the right move for them.
