A Lakehead University professor feels the federal parties are gearing up for the 2019 election.
Laure Paquette is noting what the Conservatives are doing.
“There’s already a campaign to get Andrew Scheer, the leader of the party, better known to people, introduced to people, nobody knows who he is… this is an issue if you’re going into an election campaign.”
The political expert says the NDP is concerned about its leader, Jagmeet Singh, not having a seat in the House.
“It’s the Prime Minister’s prerogative to decide when there’s a by-election, and how long that campaign is, and I think he’s going to postpone it as long as he can. Jagmeet Singh is a charismatic, appealing politician, and I think they fear Jagmeet eating their lunch more than Andrew Scheer.”
The Lakehead University political science expert adds at least one of our local MPs should do well.
“Patty Hajdu has had several portolios and she’s been promoted, so I think that’s a good thing going into the election… Mr. Rusnak has not had much of a profile, but overall I am sure the Liberals are going to lose seats, the only question is how many.”
