The City is highlighting those who work to make our community safer.
The 8th annual Mayor’s Community Safety Awards were presented Monday night at City Hall.
Community Hero went to Ron Kanutski who has inspired countless people to take control of their lives and choose healthier paths.
Young Leader Award went to Rahne Mehagan. Mehagan was enrolled in the Thunder Bay Police Youth Corps as a 13-year-old who found it difficult to speak confidently in front of a crowd. She now holds the top cadet position, where she leads other cadets to participate in positive activities and organizations in the community.
The Neighbourhood Youth Action Award winner is Dalton Shapwaykeesic. For five years, Shapwaykeesic has stepped up at his neighbourhood community youth centre, Evergreen a United Neighbourhood.
Outstanding Community Projects include Out of the Cold at Grace Place, StandUp4CleanUp, Neechee Studio and the Thunder Bay Situation Table. Outstanding Community Project winners receive a $1,000 award from their sponsor to support community safety efforts.
