The decision by the Ministry of Health to continue funding safe injection sites is welcome news for the Norwest Community Health Centre.
CEO Juanita Lawson explains they have to reapply for their injection location, but believes it’s only a formality.
She says it’s their understanding they can open the site and will receive official confirmation “at some point from the ministry.”
The centre CEO tells us officials worked behind the scenes to convince the province not to shut them down.
Lawson adds the province is keen on the idea of “wrap-around services” as part of the process.
She says it means that addicts not only have access to a nurse to help with injections and provide education but to give them access to a doctor or nurse practitioner.
