Now that Monday’s election has come and gone, we decided to take our news mic into the community and ask if you are happy with the results.
As expected, it was quite a mix.
Off the top, a few people simply couldn’t comment, saying it’s too soon to do so, while others didn’t vote out of lack of information or simply not paying attention to the political process.
Many people are glad there are new faces, with hopefully new ideas. As for the winning incumbents, some people wanted them gone, while others hope their experience will guide the newer ones along.
One person was glad for Peng You, the At Large candidate with the most votes, while in the next breath saying he told his brother if Rebecca Johnson got in, he’d leave town. Now he doesn’t know what to do.
A number of people are glad Bill Mauro will be mayor, saying his experience will help, while another added he’s progressive and worked hard as a minister.
Others weren’t as happy… with one woman saying while Mauro wasn’t her favourite choice, she’s sure he’ll do well with his political background.
It was also pointed out real change is needed in Thunder Bay, as we have some real pressing issues to deal with.
