There is no end to the controversy over hunting being allowed next to Valley Central School in Slate River, even though the farmer has agreed to stop the practice during school hours.
A member of the school’s parent council, Lisa Hipwell-Mineau, isn’t satisfied since the restriction isn’t broad enough.
She notes the agreement with the farmer doesn’t “protect the school during extracurricular activities” or other extended hours like over the weekend when there are various community events taking place.
She points to an incident over the summer when a hunter shot a gun and all the children who were part of a daycare program, some as young as a year-and-a-half, had to be escorted back into the school.
Hipwell points out many of the children were scared, and the police had to be called in to make sure it was a safe situation.
The school council member also claims signs, showing the restricted hours, have not been posted yet as promised.
