October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month and we’re lucky to be a part of a very cool initiative. Today we are at Downtown Volkswagen, “putting a cap on cancer.” It’s really simple, you swing by, and for a $5 donation, we put pink valve caps on your tires. It’s quick, cute, and for such a great cause. Proceeds support Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Foundation’s Northern Cancer Fund.
I was there earlier today. I was looking forward to it. I love getting out and meeting listeners and love supporting a great cause. What I didn’t think about before I got there was all of the stories I’d hear from people. Personal stories. Heartbreaking stories. Inspirational stories. People who are dealing with cancer themselves, people whose loved ones are going through this terrible battle. Multiple family members lost to the disease. I got so much more out of this day than I had anticipated. I got to know listeners on a much more personal level, I got a dose of reality, and I got a sense of hope. I also got my hands a little dirty. So many people came by to get their pink caps, I was up and down to change the caps more times than I could count! Does that qualify as my exercise for the day? Pretty sure it might be in the “squats” category.
If you’re interested in donating and getting these pink caps rolling, we’re at Downtown Volkswagen (591 Central Ave) today until 6 pm. We’ll be running Cap Clinics every Tuesday this month, plus the team at DW will hook you up any day this month during regular business hours!
