A 23-year-old driver is facing charges, after his car ended up submerged in the Current River, Friday night.
Police say the man is charged with driving while suspended, and careless driving, after allegedly falling asleep behind the wheel.
They say a 2006 Mitsubishi sedan was travelling northbound on Cumberland Street at a high speed, when it went off the roadway, sailed 11 metres in the air, and landed mid-stream in the Current River.
Gas and oil was discharged into the water, and, as a result, further charges may be laid.
The driver was taken to hospital for treatment of a sore neck. (Photo courtesy of Rob McPherson)
