Ontario municipalities are looking for stable funding from the province.
The Ontario Municipal Partnership Fund has been the province’s main form of assistance, but is currently under review by the Ford government.
Association of Municipalities of Ontario President Jamie McGarvey stresses any reduction could result in tax increases or service cuts.
He points out getting extra money for the fund appearance “unrealistic at this time,” but adds, “preserving it is critical.”
McGarvey says vital day to day services should not be abandoned and shifting more cost to the tax base is not wise either
